Who We Are
Duffield Scout Group was formed in 1908 by the two sons of Samuel Wright, the Headmaster of William Gilbert School; Reginald Wright was Scout Master and Ivan Wright as Troop Leader. Unfortunately Reginald was fatally wounded after falling from a quarry whilst on a Scout hike in 1911. It is for this reason why we have the black band round the edge of our neckers.
Jumping ahead over 100 years and we now have over 220 members in six sections starting in Beavers at the age 6 before progressing to Cubs, Scouts and now Explorers. Beyond the age of 18, we hope past members will continue their Scouting in Network or as adult leaders.
AIMS OF SCOUTING
‘to promote the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.’
